Create in Glass: Hands-On Glassblowing at The Arts Center

The Arts Center is excited to feauture our first artist in residency, acclaimed glassblower Arthur Wilson. Arthur's work has been featured on Netflix’s Blown Away. Based in Mableton Georgia, Arthur creates powerful work that explores topics like food insecurity, labor politics, and the rapid growth of technology. In addition to his artistic practice, Arthur is passionate about teaching and has worked with renowned institutions including the Corning Museum of Glass, Penland School of Craft, Pilchuck Glass School, and Pittsburgh Glass Center.

During his residency at The Arts Center, Arthur will be offering "Demo Days", where the public may drop in and observe him creating various glass pieces. This is a free opportunity to watch the process of glassblowing and will take place in the Sculpture Garden. Demo days will take place on June 10th and 17th from 11:00 AM - 1:00PM and 2:00 - 5:00 PM. Additionally, Arthur will be hosting a demo during the Quilt Exhibit opening on Thursday, June 25th from 5:00 - 7:00 PM.

In addition to the Demo Days, we invite you to discover the excitement of working with fire and form in our hands-on glassblowing workshops. Arthur will bring all the supplies, walk participants through essential safety practices, and provide step-by-step guidance as you create your own unique, custom glass piece. Thanks to a grant from the National Endowment for the Arts, we are able to offer these workshops at a discounted price for our community.
