United Way Summer Camps
Instructor: Kathy Nelson
Dates: Weekly, Monday - Friday (unless otherwise noted)
Time: 8:00 am - 5:00 pm
Ages: Rising 3rd - Rising 6th Graders
Fee: $100 per camp (unless otherwise noted)
Scholarships are available for those who need financial assistance. Please click here to apply.
Camps include morning and afternoon instruction in art, music, theater, and pottery. Campers will go to the MCCPRA pool to swim Wednesday afternoon. Please bring lunch and a water bottle. Snack will be provided, but campers may bring an additional snack, if desired.
Daily Schedule:
Early Arrival (must be approved) - 7:45 am
Standard Arrival - 8:00 am
Class Instruction Begins - 9:00 am
Lunch - 12:00 pm
Snack - 3:00 pm
Pickup - 4:00 - 5:00 pm

Week 1: Drawing Foundations, May 27 - 30 (4 day, cost: $80)
Campers will draw from life, objects, & photographs, learning lines, lighting, and shapes. During this camp students will use oil pastels, pencils, color pencils, markers, and charcoal.
Week 2: Painting Foundations, June 2 - 6
Campers will be introduced to the color wheel and learn how to mix colors. Students will also learn to use a variety of mediums to engage in painting.
Week 3: Architecture- Antoni Gaudi, June 9 - 13
Campers will be introduced to the Spanish architect Antoni Gaudi and learn about his famous works. During this camp we will create architectural designs in multiple mediums referencing those works.
Week 4: "Under the Sea" Painting, June 16 - 18 (3 day, cost: $60)
Campers will learn how to use a variety of paint mediums and color mixing techniques. During this camp students will create their own paintings capturing the whimsical world of life under the sea.
Week 5: Learn to Draw Animals, June 23 - 27
Campers will learn how to use a variety of mediums to draw animals. During this camp students will create their own drawings of both realistic and stylized animals.
Week 6: Design Around the World, July 7 - 11
Campers will learn about the creation and use of patterns in art around the world. Students will also be able to create their own unique design and have it translated into multiple art formats.
Week 7: Pop Art & Surrealism, July 14 - 18
Campers will study famous Pop Art and Surrealist artists, Andy Warhol and Salvador Dali. During this camp children will create their own drawings and paintings inspired by these genres of art.
Week 8: 3D Abstract Sculpture, July 21 - 25
Campers will learn how to use wood and paper-mache to create original 3D designs. By the end of this camp each student will have their own sculpture completed.
Week 9: Comics & Cartoons, July 28 - August 1
Campers will learn how to create various cartoon characters using multiple mediums. Students will explore the world of comics, cartoons, and storytelling.
Art Center Class & Camp Policies
Behavior Policy
The Arts Center reserves the right to dismiss a student due to disorderly behavior. No refunds will be made if a student is dismissed for disciplinary reasons.
Refund Policy
Up to one week prior to camp: 100% refund or full credit may be used towards another camp.
One week - one day prior to camp: 50% refund or full credit may be used towards another camp.
Day of camp: No refund, but full credit may be used towards another camp.
Medical Release
The Arts Center will not assume responsibility for any injury or illness incurred while participating in any program or event, nor will the Arts Center be liable for lost or stolen items while members and/or program campers are using the Arts Center facilities or are on the premises or participating in an off-site event representing the Arts Center. Parents or Guardian give their permission for the Arts Center to conduct any necessary measures regarding the health of the child in case of emergency.
Media Release
I understand photographers and/or television crews will sometimes be present or filming the Arts Center’s classes, rehearsals, lessons, and/or performances. I give my permission for the resulting photographs and/or television footage, which may include my child, to be used appropriately by the staff of the Arts Center.
